With Placencia Peninsula as your home base, day trips around southern Belize offer world class activities from the Barrier Reef to the ruins of the ancient Mayans.
Scuba Diving: Belize offers the second largest Barrier Reef in the world, over 180 miles long. Whale Shark diving trips are available under the full moon in the months of March, April, May, and June.
Snorkeling: Whale Shark snorkeling trips are available under the full moon in the months of March, April, May, and June. Several Caye and Reef destinations are available by boat for snorkelers from the Placencia Peninsula.
Fishing: From Placencia you can fish the Caribbean Sea, the Barrier Reef, the Flats, the Inner Lagoon, or the in-land Rivers. Fly Fishing, Reef Trolling or beyond Barrier Reef, and Spin Casting are all available on day trips. Species include; Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon, Snook, King Mackerel, Tuna, Snappers, Barracuda, Jacks, Groupers, Wahoo, and Machaka.
Mayan Ruin Trips: Nim Li Punit and Lubaantun in Southern Belize are within a day trip from Placencia. Many other ruins are located around Belize and can be included with inland travel.
